Apple devices are always a delight to own. Considering the rich features combined with excellent UI, everyone wants to own an iPad. The device should be handled with extra care as any hard knock or drop may result in breaking the touch screen. There are three options available to the Customer based on cost, effort and schedule parameters. It can either be repaired with a little effort on your own; you can get it repaired at a third party service centre or get it replaced with Apple.
If you are planning to repair yourself, take care not to avoid any damage to other components attached close to the touch screen. You can start from the bottom right corner using a sharp tool like a paint scrapper or scalpel. Use a heating device as hairdryer to melt the glue but do not overheat as it may damage the LCD within. On the inside, the Wi-Fi cable glued is to the touch screen near the home button, Volume on-off cable is in top right corner of the screen and the touch screen flex cable is on the left near the bottom. These should be removed very carefully as any mistake will damage the cables. If your iPad is the 3G model, take extra precaution in detaching Bluetooth and 3G modules glued to the touch screen near the camera. Once this is done, the LCD can be removed after loosening the screws. It can be opened like a book with the connector on the left. Once the LCD is removed from the board, the touch screen can be disconnected and removed.
Another option is to go to a third party service centre. However, the reviews of the service centre should be checked before making a decision. These service centres will have experts who can do this job flawlessly but do take time to research with reviews. The third option is to go to Apple where there is no repair involved. Apple will provide a brand new iPad as replacement providing substantial discount for the same. While the cost factor is high for this option, you can get a brand new device with warranty.
